Government Programme

The GSMA’s government programme provides a framework for regular interactive dialogue and relationship building between ministers, regulators and industry in both developed and developing countries.

Information and communications technologies (ICT) can play a major role in helping governments address complex challenges such achieving sustainable economic growth, combating climate change, improving the delivery of healthcare and providing widespread access to broadband . Realising the full potential of mobile communications to help meet societal and economic challenges requires governments and many different industries to work together, engaging in a constructive and continuous dialogue.

The GSMA endeavours to build bridges between the mobile industry, policy makers and other industries. In support of maintaining and enhancing the dialogue between the mobile industry and the public sector, the GSMA is heavily engaged with key inter-governmental bodies, such as the United Nations, the International Telecommunications Union, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the European Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and many other regional organisations.

We also run targeted regional ministerial summits, local seminars and workshops throughout the year and collaborate closely with the ITU — with whom we signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2007 — to participate fully in ITU regional meetings, conferences and exhibitions.
